Sue Derrick's Ancestors

My name is Sue and my maiden name is Derrick. I have been researching my family tree for a number of years and have made new friends and found relatives all over the world.

The Case pages are the ancestors of my maternal grandmother. There is a family story that there is a Romany in this branch. Mary Griffin had three illegitimate children and we think that the father of these children was the Romany.

The Derrick pages are the ancestors of my father. The Cursue branch on these pages are interesting as I have been told that they were Huguenots, who fled to Ireland and then came to England. I have only managed to trace the family back to Thomas Cursue in Devon.

The West pages are the ancestors of my maternal grandfather. My favourite ancestor in this branch is the much married Alice Ford. She did not actually marry John Merry but gave birth to his son when she was married to her third husband John West. When she had this son, John, baptised she gave him the surname of his natural father ie Merry and the surname of her husband ie West. After a few generations people did not remember why the surname was Merry West so the Merry part was dropped.
